Fox Ghost

This drawing is based on a wonderful photograph by Don Gutoski “Wildlife Photographer of the Year / Best Nature Photo of 2015” – Story of Two Foxes. The original photo depicts a fox eating another fox. When I started drawing I had this photo in mind, but the scene changed during the drawing process. I started imagining a fox shedding skins, like an insect in metamorphosis.

Thus, here is a fox who just took off its outer layer, but it is still holding on to it. Maybe, just for a moment, it is taken by melancholy in its moment of transformation – hesitating to leave its ghost behind.
